Internal Communications

Organizing an Organization

Larger-scale teams need the right communications at the right time and in the right place to be effective. This requires consistency, clarity, and conciseness.

Let’s take a look at a few examples from my time at T-Mobile supporting the chief procurement officer, chief network officer, and president of technology.

How do I produce enterprise-leading internal metrics? I know my audience, I use effective channels, and I blend company KPIs with employee wants and needs. Click image to expand.

A company like T-Mobile has enterprise brand standards that all teams must adhere to. For the procurement team, I used these guidelines in a way that provided distinction in two areas: who our team is and what we do.

Every detail is important. Teams can go crazy with the smallest details, like their own email signature lines. It’s up to me to police this. I create and provide a unique signature template for each team, along with easy copy-and-paste instructions to ensure we’re all using the right branding.

A strong strategic foundation lays the groundwork for effective tactical content. Here is an example of the tactical side: a one-off internal email from T-Mobile’s chief procurement officer announcing a two-team merger stemming from a huge change management moment: the 2020
T-Mobile-Sprint merger.

Let the company’s persona guide you.
T-Mobile was the Un-carrier; the cool, younger brother with the latest toys and something to prove to the world. I used this persona to create a procurement team onboarding guide outlining who’s who, what teams did what and how they connected to one another, and how to succeed in this fast-paced environment. Maintaining an intuitive content ecosystem with accessible templates and go-to branding elements gives me the time, budget, and scope to produce lots of cool stuff. This includes highly effective internal training pieces, cultural-centric sizzle reels, and educational overviews built to break down barriers between teams and orgs. Here’s a sizzle overview for

Utilizing a top-down strategic approach that stems from enterprise values and CEO initiatives gives me the roadmap to create, produce, and manage larger initiatives; for example, I can quickly and easily put together effective and engaging organizational announcements that bring leadership and leadership objectives to life. This video showcases a national network shift into operational excellence.

I need to make a big impact for a new initiative? No problem. Using our 2023 technology mission to “Showcase that T-Mobile is the best in the world at connecting customers to their world,” I put together a longform internal piece that spurred top-3 year-over-year overall user engagement within our enterprise channels, and gave senior leadership plenty of content to showcase our org on external channels, as well.
